North Star Mountain: East Ridge

Trip Details

Elevation: 13,614 Feet

Elevation Gain: 2,700 Feet

Distance: 8.4 Miles

Gear: Ice ax, microspikes

Original plan: Fletcher Mountain via “Drift Peak” – a strenuous mountain ridge climb with a short 5.2 headwall. However, an hour into our drive to the trailhead we remembered we packed everything except our belay devices. After discussing our options (belaying and rapping with Munters, driving back to get them, or picking a different peak) we decided to pick another peak.

New plan: North Star it is!

We seem to be getting used to the elevation.  There were some spots on the route that were a little unexpected like the knife edges, however much of the scrambling along the ridge was straight forward.  While it wasn’t technical, it turned out to be a good alternative to Fletcher.
